LOCAL HOMESCHOOL GROUPS
Northeast Wisconsin is blessed to have quite a few local homeschool support groups, all listed on The N.E.W. Scoop. The two largest/most active are Green Bay Area Christian Homeschoolers (GBACH) and Green Bay Homeschooling Families (GBHSF) (NOTE: Since GBHSF doesn't have its own website, please contact its admin, Carrie - carrie.ebel(at)gmail(dot)com - if you would like to join but are not on Facebook.)
Consider, of course, joining any/all of the groups that resonate with your preferences.
ALT: WI - EMBRACING HOMESCHOOL FREEDOM IN WISCONSIN
Alt: WI is an online meeting place for private, independent home educators (i.e., those who file an annual PI-1206) throughout Wisconsin. Moderated by Tina, the group launched as a positive alternative for Wisconsin home-educating families, with the goal of promoting a fact-based, freedom-enhancing vision of private homeschooling in the state. Wisconsin was one of the first states to legalize homeschooling in the modern era and – properly interpreted (i.e., with an originalist view as intended by its authors) – the law under which we operate is one of the best (i.e., least regulated) in the nation. We seek to encourage parents to embrace that freedom and to, thus, thrive as home educators. Alt: WI also hosts a website which - among other things - lists and links to activity and field trip venues throughout the state.
THE CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOL OASIS (CHO)
CHO is an online support group for private, independent home educators across the U.S. and Canada. Also moderated by Tina, it is meant to be an oasis for its members - a place for Christian and other socially conservative home-educating parents to refresh and refuel. You may join CHO's Facebook group, its off-FB presence, or both.
LEARN MORE BOOKSTORE
The Loft has partnered with Learn More Bookstore, an Algoma-based consignment-style used book store just for homeschoolers. If you see something you like in the Loft Library and would like to purchase it, Learn More may have it! You can take a field trip up to Algoma to browse the store's shelves, or order online and arrange for delivery of your books to The Loft.
SECOND HAND SCHOOL
The Loft has also partnered with Second Hand School, a website through which a veteran Green Bay area homeschooling mom sells "gently used or nearly new" educational resources. You can visit Second Hand School to search for items you see in the Loft Library.
SPEECH THERAPY CONSULTATIONS
A local friend and veteran homeschooling mother with a master's degree in Speech Pathology and 22 years experience has offered to provide speech and language consultations for a very reasonable fee. She will meet you at The Loft or at your home, according to your preference - or could even provide some feedback from a video or audio recording of your child speaking. For more information, email Christy - mommyturtle(at)gmail(dot)com.
While there may very well be other homeschool-friendly medical professionals in the greater Green Bay area, we know of a few in particular who will fully respect your parental rights on both medical and educational matters:
